Upper Housatonic Valley African American Heritage Trail

To identify, preserve, share and celebrate our African American heritage in the Upper Housatonic Valley, through the creation of a heritage trail and related interpretive materials.

We support:

  • the protection of heritage sites in the area;
  • the collection, compilation and preservation of historical materials;
  • educational initiatives and related curricula.

The African American Heritage Trail is a project of the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area Inc., a private nonprofit organization established in 2000 to create and manage the national heritage area encompassing 29 communities in Western Massachusetts and northwestern Connecticut. Its overall goals are to celebrate and preserve the region's historical, cultural and natural attractions.
